Davoud came to England from Iran. This is his story....
I would like to tell you how I became a Christian.
In London
I learned about Jesus Christ in school and from friends and from books. I was a Muslim in Iran. When I came to London I got acquainted with an Iranian person. He became a Christian here. One day he invited me to the Iranian church. They were all Muslims before, but they were converted here. The Pastor of the Iranian church is British. He was a Pastor in Iran for about fifteen years before the religious revolution in Iran. He can speak Persian as well as me. That day I got a book about Christianity. Of course I read the New Testament in India when I wanted to come here. That day I saw how Christians pray and how they love each other. It was interesting for me.
While I was in London, I went to church services five times and I read the Bible there. Of course I did not understand before, but little by little as I was going to church, I understood.
Many Iranians do not see any good things about the Muslim religion because the Iranian government are doing lots of things in the name of Islam and we cannot object. Therefore many people do not like Islam and they do not follow the practices, but they do not change religion because the Muslim religion says they cannot change religion. If anyone does, the government can kill them. Therefore many people from Iran run away to other countries. Some of them when they come here change religion like me.
How am I saved?
I read the New Testament a lot and one question came to my mind. That question caused me to become a Christian. That question was: am I saved by doing religious formalities and good works, or by believing in the One God sent to us? Can I keep the law of God and do it?
What is the sacrifice?
Why did God send Abram a sacrifice? If God had not sent it, what would have happened to Isaac? He would have died. So God sent Abram a sheep for a sacrifice.
I am the same as Isaac. I am under the sin rule. If God had not sent JESUS to be my sacrifice, I would have died. We were sinners from the beginning. But God forgave me with His lamb Jesus, and He gave me eternal life in Heaven.
Jesus my sacrifice
This gift belonged to me but I had to accept it for myself. He came to give His life as a sacrifice for all people. I prayed to God and I confessed all of my sins, but He knows everything about me and I accepted His forgiveness through His sacrifice JESUS CHRIST.
The Bible
I pray to God to come by His Spirit into my life and He gives me the power to follow JESUS CHRIST as His disciple. God speaks to us through His book the Bible. It is a clear way for us to understand His message. I thank you God for His message because I can find it in the Bible. I gave all my sinful unsuccessful life to Him and He gave me His life. And he helps me everyday.
Then I came to Coventry and came to this church. I am glad I found this church and I thank You, God, for Your kindness.
